FIRST INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON REMOTE SENSING TECHNIQUES IN DISASTER MANAGEMENT AND EMERGENCY RESPONSE IN THE MEDITERRANEAN REGION

On behalf of the Organisers, we invite you to participate in the above mentioned conference, organised by the European Association of Remote Sensing Laboratories (EARSeL), the Scientific Council for Remote Sensing of the Croation Academy of Sciences and Arts (HAZU), the University of Zagreb, and GEOSAT Ltd., Zagreb.
The organisers of the conference would be grateful if you would note and forward on, as appropriate, the following information:
The new abstract deadline date for the conference is
29th FEBRUARY 2008
The conference subject “Disaster Management and Emergency Response” is a high-priority topic in the Mediterranean region. Risk reduction using remote sensing techniques can be very helpful in various applications.
Identification of relevant space-based and airborne information for Disaster Management Support and Emergency Response is a major issue.
The conference covers risk management, such as knowledge, prevention, warning, management of emergency situations, post-analysis of crisis, environmental rehabilitation, etc.
Papers are welcome for the following topics: – Forest Fires – Earthquakes – Floods – Land Degradation (soil erosion, desertification) – Landslides/mudflows – Storm Damage – Sea pollution/Oil-spill detection – Man-made and other relevant aspects

The conference will offer paper presentations and poster sessions, and provide an international forum for sharing your ideas, exploring the on-going research, future development, including the state-of-the-art applications, and networking with the professionals from academies, industry and government, who are interested in Disaster Risk Reduction in the Mediterranean Region.
After the conference, a study boat trip to the fire site on the Kornati islands is planned.
