Videos

There is substantial research promoting the use of video as a dynamic resource for supporting curricula and are good source for demonstrations and illustrating concepts, ideas and examples particularly in remote sensing as even though it is primarily image based; the concepts can easily be grasped with a more ‘animated’ approach due to a range of complex mechanics involved and broad applications.

There are a range of videos available on-line through video sharing websites such as YouTube and Google Videos but it also important to discover videos which are produced by organisations involved in Remote Sensing but are primarily to be presented in the form of lectures and workshops. If you would like your or any other videos listed or if any of the links no longer function; please email the E&T Editor.

  • How remote sensing helps in understanding the global scale phenomenon and how we can also quickly notice any changes to our environment. With this information we can make better informed decisions, and help us maintain nature’s fragile balance.

  • As part of the 60th International Astronautical Congress held in Daejeon, Korea, a highlight lecture was held on Tuesday 13 October 2009. Gunter Schreier, deputy head of the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) Remote Sensing Data Centre, presented a talk on the collaboration of DLR in the initiative to use remote sensing data to help UNESCO in preserving the world heritage sites.

  • Dr. Crews-Meyer’s research includes geographic information science, remote sensing, land use/land cover change, human-environment interactions, environmental policy, global tropics especially Thailand, Andean South America.

  • The space-based view provides both perspective and context that enable new insights into how and why ice is changing and what these changes may mean for life on Earth. Presented by Waleed Abdalati from NASA.

  • Mark Riley, Remote Sensing Specialist for the USDA Forest Service, shares results of an interdisciplinary study evaluating the ability of thermal infrared and natural color digital aerial imagery for detecting mountain goats in their southeast Alaska habitat.

  • Meteorologist Brian Boyd with the NOAA National Weather Service recently spoke at the Kingsport Public Library about the uses in remote sensing to predict the weather.
