National Centre for Earth Observation, ESSC
Company Profile
The Environmental Systems Science Centre is directed by Professor Robert Gurney, and is comprised of more than 20 scientific staff and between 10-16 postgraduate students. It receives a 5-year renewable grant from the Natural Environment Research Council (currently funded until October 2005 with an extension to 2007) to support its core science. This is supplemented by income from grants and awards, chiefly from NERC, but also from industry. ESSC are an integral part of the University of Reading and are a component of the School of Physics, Mathematics and Meteorology. ESSC was rated 5* in the Research Assessment Exercise 2001.

- Centre for Observation of Air-Sea Interaction and Fluxes (CASIX)
- Climate and Land-Surface Systems Interaction Centre (CLASSIC)
