Public Outreach
It is dangerous to be right when the government is wrong – Voltaire, 1764
Welcome to the zone that sets out all the elements of the framework in which our science and its applications happen. There are three main parts:
Policy
UK and European government policies on a variety of topics, from the environment we live in to the geographic information that we use to measure and monitor it, have a major influence on our professional life. Public sector players respond directly to policy, academics set their research agendas in a policy context and industry pursues the opportunities or reacts to the threats that policy creates. When significant change is afoot, we will tell you, announce relevant consultations and help you to comment.
Opportunities
The public sector at European, national and local level is a major sponsor of research and funder of remote sensing and photogrammetry applications. We will tell you about the latest funding opportunities, including grants and invitations to tender. You could also use the networking possibilities that RSPSoc offers to seek appropriate partners to strengthen the team that you put together to respond. And we hope that you will tell us about any opportunities that we have missed, too!
Standards
As every industry matures, it develops standards. There are national and international standards or best practice guidelines in several aspects of geographic information. This area of the site points you in the right direction. RSPSoc has also worked with two UKGeoForum partners, the Association for Geographic Information and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, to develop standards for aerial surveys. The outcome of our collaborative work on this topic is presented here.
Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing in Action
This section details how Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing is being used in the real world to address real world problems that can ultimately affect how we live. This provides information on organisations and initiatives that actively use Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing to help solve global issues
