NERC FREE (Flood Risk from Extreme Events) Workshop on Ensembles
We are pleased to announce an interdisciplinary workshop on ensembles, to be held at the Wokefield Park Hotel in Reading on 23-24 September 2009.
Many of the projects funded under the NERC FREE (Flood Risk from Extreme
Events) programme are investigating the propagation of uncertainty through complex coupled meteorological, hydrological and coastal models. In many cases, ensemble methods are being used to take account of this uncertainty. There are a number of common issues that must be considered when designing and evaluating ensemble prediction systems. The workshop will address these issues, and be structured around keynote presentations and break-out groups, with a poster session to allow attendees to present their work.

The NERC FREE programme has funded registration costs for a limited number of workshop attendees. Attendees may also apply for a travel grant towards their travel expenses for attending the workshop. Funded places and travel grants will be allocated at the discretion of the organisers, with priority given to members of the FREE community and young scientists. Those who wish to apply for a travel grant should register by the earlybird deadline of August 15th.
